In particular, 40% of the complaints to the Children's Ombudsman's secretariat about child abuse during these 9 months are precisely such negative situations in schools!
A child comes to school to receive an education when in this place he becomes a victim of various unwanted attitudes, harassment.
Here, for example, are examples of appeals from children and their parents who were bullied in our schools:
-
a situation where a teenage girl was subjected to psychological pressure and pressure from classmates (bullying) in an educational institution, students spread unfounded messages on the Internet that contradict the honor and dignity of the girl, as a result of which the girl tried to commit suicide (Marianna, Tashkent, Mirabad district);
-
psychological pressure and pressure on 1st grade students from the teacher and the headmaster, directed against other parents and children, both the child and his mother, the organization of mass bullying, discrimination (Tashkent, Yakkasarai district);
-
due to the fact that in the Andijan region, the Izboskan district school did not take serious measures against a parent who did not send his daughters to school for 3 years and violated their right to education, with various unfounded accusations;
-
the condition in which the daughter, born in 2008, studies at a school in Mirzo-Ulugbek district, in which she is subjected to psychological violence, and her appeal to the school administration to eliminate this was ignored, and instead pressure was exerted on her daughter by the school principal;
-
due to the fact that at the school of the Boston district of the Tashkent region, the student is constantly being bullied and bullied by classmates, the school administration and other responsible persons did not take this circumstance into account (Tashkent region);
-
a situation where teachers steadily apply physical punishment to students at a private school in the Almazar district;
E. cases when a psychologist directly commits actions contrary to the profession and the task of the specialists themselves:
- that a teenage girl who was born abroad (Sweden) and lived there for 14 years, after returning with her family to Uzbekistan, was discriminated against at school, and a psychologist specialist, instead of helping the child, subjected her to even more pressure, made statements, actions contrary to honor, behaved completely unprofessionally
A situation where the school administration in the Mirabad district constantly points out to the student's mother that a psychologist and other teachers treat his child badly, talk about various vices and demand to take the child out of school.
The fact that such situations occur in schools every day, in fact, indicates that the environment in the social space there is psychologically unstable, dangerous for the health of children.
The psyche of violence and oppression is contagious, it is quickly transmitted from adults to children and spreads between them when school is the main place where the child spends his main time.
It is at school that children acquire basic life skills, get used to social communications, and behaviors when communicating with others.
When this school of life turns out to be unworthy, the child suffers serious psychological losses. Complexes acquired in childhood, injuries leave their complications even after the child grows up.
According to a UNICEF analysis, a comprehensive 2022 study found that 16 percent of students experience social isolation, 15.4 percent experience moderate to severe anxiety, and 9.8 percent experience depression.
In addition, almost 20 percent of students consider their school unsafe due to the dangerous, abusive and discriminatory behavior of other students. At the same time, the children noted several risk factors that can worsen the mental health and psychosocial well-being of adolescents.
The most common risk factors are: family conflicts/violence, lack of communication and understanding in the family, lack of friendship or superficial relationships, teachers who are not supportive, academic pressure, bullying, poor school conditions, excessive screen time, poverty and migration of parents.
The most common obstacles to seeking help from adolescents and parents are discrimination and embarrassment, insufficient information about school psychologists and other support resources for mental health and psychosocial support, as well as lack of confidence in the skills and qualifications of psychologists among adolescents and their parents (UNICEF. ”Mental health and psychosocial well-being of adolescents in schools." 2022.)
Of course, it is difficult to accept these figures and these factors, but recognizing existing problems is the first step towards solving them.
At the end of my speech, I would like to draw your attention once again to what is the main purpose of psychological services in school institutions - the spiritual and mental development of students, becoming their harmonious personality, active social adaptation and health protection in their development by age, self-realization in the process of continuing education, psychological adaptation for the manifestation of individual psychological characteristics, personal capabilities and abilities.- consists in creating pedagogical conditions.
